Velocity Calculator
Calculate velocity from distance and time in m/s, km/h, and mph.
Velocity is the rate of change of position with respect to time. In its simplest form, average velocity equals distance divided by time: v = d / t. This fundamental relationship underlies all motion calculations in physics.
While speed and velocity are often used interchangeably in everyday language, velocity is technically a vector quantity that includes direction, whereas speed is scalar. For this calculator, we compute speed (magnitude only).
Results are shown in meters per second (the SI standard), kilometers per hour (common for vehicles), and miles per hour (used in the US and UK). A useful approximation: to convert m/s to km/h, multiply by 3.6; to convert m/s to mph, multiply by 2.237.
