Scale recipe ingredient amounts up or down for any number of servings.
The Recipe Scaler adjusts ingredient quantities when you need to make a recipe for more or fewer people than the original. Enter the original serving count, your desired serving count, and any ingredient amount.
The calculator multiplies the ingredient amount by the ratio of desired to original servings. It also shows the scale factor and pre-calculated amounts for half and double the original recipe.
This is especially useful for dinner parties, meal prep, holiday cooking, or when halving a large batch recipe. Remember that cooking times and pan sizes may need adjustment when scaling significantly.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do cooking times change when scaling?
Not always proportionally. Larger quantities in the same pan may need longer cooking. Multiple pans at the original time often work better than one giant batch.
Can I scale any recipe?
Most recipes scale well for 0.5x to 4x. Beyond that, baking recipes especially may need formula adjustments for leavening and liquid ratios.
What about spices when scaling up?
Start with less spice than the math suggests when scaling up. Scale spices to about 75% of the calculated amount and adjust to taste.
