Calculate your Body Mass Index and find out which weight category you fall into.
Body Mass Index (BMI) is a simple screening tool that estimates body fat based on your weight and height. It's calculated by dividing your weight in kilograms by the square of your height in meters: BMI = weight (kg) / height (m)².
The World Health Organization classifies BMI into these categories: Underweight (below 18.5), Normal weight (18.5-24.9), Overweight (25-29.9), and Obese (30 and above). Obesity is further divided into Class I (30-34.9), Class II (35-39.9), and Class III (40+).
While BMI is a useful population-level indicator, it has important limitations. It doesn't distinguish between muscle mass and fat mass, so muscular athletes may have a high BMI despite being very fit. It also doesn't account for fat distribution — abdominal fat carries higher health risks than fat stored elsewhere.
For a more complete picture of your health, consider BMI alongside other metrics like waist circumference, body fat percentage, and waist-to-hip ratio. Consult a healthcare provider for personalized health assessments.
